TOURNAMENT RULES
There will be 1 non-playing Tournament Director that will rule on all games.
The Tournament Director’s call is final.
Because of various perspectives on standard dominoes rules, only our house rules apply, as stated below.
GENERAL
Each fixture will see two teams will face off in a “boem”.
The “down” starts with the player who draws “Ou Ses” in the first game of the “boem”.
No amount of “ou kaate” drawn will result in an “over game”. Play with what you get.
No draw-backs during play – once a card is exposed, it must be played. And if the exposed card does not match any of the numbers on each side, then the player at fault will be “straffed”.
The aim of the “boem” is to be the first team to reach five points.
The first team to reach five points is declared the winner – i.e. the “boem is af”.
BOEM PUNTE
Teams earn one point once one player has played out all his/her cards.
Teams earn two points if one player’s tally counts the least in a “tel” game.
If the players from opposing teams have equal tallies, the “tel” game is declared null and void, and the “down” moves on without any points given.
Teams earn two points if one player’s last card can finish the game on both ends. This is known as a “Milo”.
For group points scoring, refer to Tournament Format for more information.
“STRAF” RULES
“Klopping” false – intentionally or accidentally – will see two points awarded to the opposing team.
A player can redeem himself if he plays before the opponent exposes his card following the false klop.
If a player plays out of turn and exposes their card, two points will be awarded to the opposing team. The opponents must be able to call out the card in question for the “straf” to apply.
The only case when the player who plays out of turn is not “straffed” is when they were misguided by a false “klop” or misinformed by opposing team.
A player can play alone if he holds the only cards that can be placed on each side (both his “staane” or holds all the cards playable). However, if he makes an incorrect calculation, and plays ahead of another play (out of turn), he will be “straffed”.
If a player gives any clues or signs during the game, which the tournament director deems as illegal, two points will be awarded to the opposing team.
PLEASE NOTE: We understand that dominoes is a social game and we appreciate good banter, but any hand gestures or verbal clues will be strictly punished. We advise that you don’t risk your team in this regard as there are prizes on the line. Be mindful of what you do and say during the game.
For example, don’t lift your hands when there is a possible tel game. Don’t give any clues on what cards are in your favour during a game.
EXTRA NOTE: We call on all players to be respectful – in winning and losing. Any extensive disrespectful language or behaviour towards players or the tournament director will not be tolerated. Excessive disrespect can result in disqualification from the tournament.
